The question "where do I work today?" comes up constantly, and finding a good answer is harder than it should be. WiFi quality varies wildly, AC is non-negotiable in the heat, and most guides are years out of date.
We test every spot in person with a speed test and go back regularly. Our priorities: fast and reliable internet, good coffee, and somewhere nearby to take a real break — a beach, a fort, a park. Cartagena has all of these if you know where to look. Whether you need a coworking space with solid upload speeds for video calls, or a quiet café for a few focused hours, this is the only list in Cartagena with real speed test data and honest notes about what each place is actually like.
Juan Valdez inside La Mansión — a Bocagrande complex that includes a pizzeria, pilates studio, Braun cookies and ice cream, and more. Convenient if you're staying in the area and want to combine errands with a work session. WiFi is functional at 14.7/4.7 Mbps — fine for email and focused work, not reliable for video calls. If you have back-to-back video calls, bring a hotspot as backup. A few outlets available. Laptop users are a common sight here. The open courtyard café of the Alianza Colombo Francesa, on one of the most beautiful squares in the historic center — Plaza Fernández de Madrid. White colonial arches, string lights, vines overhead, tables in a peaceful patio. The WiFi is exceptional: 367 Mbps down / 262 Mbps up on Movistar fiber — the second-fastest connection we've measured in Cartagena so far. Note the speed test resolved to a Barranquilla server, but the connection itself is local Movistar fiber. No AC so the heat is a factor — mornings and early afternoons are the sweet spot. Outlets are available on one side of the courtyard, limited on the other. A wanderer's work spot: drop in for a few hours while exploring the center, connect fast, enjoy the setting. Also has a public library inside. One of the most photogenic places to work in Cartagena.

The library inside the Centro de Formación de la Cooperación Española — a colonial cloister on Plaza Santo Domingo that most visitors walk past without realizing it's open to the public. High wooden ceilings, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, large study tables, and an atmosphere of genuine quiet. WiFi is solid at 41/45 Mbps — a nearly symmetrical connection, with upload slightly ahead of download. The speed test resolved to a Barrancabermeja server, but the connection itself is local C&W. Free to use as a workspace. There's a café inside for coffee. One of the most beautiful places to work in the historic center, and almost nobody knows you can just walk in and sit down. One of the most beautiful buildings in Cartagena to work from — a neoclassical 1907 Banco de la República library with Ionic columns, high arched ceilings, and a black marble reading room that feels genuinely grand. Free to enter, free to use.
WiFi is open with a daily rotating password — ask at the desk when you arrive. At 10/5 Mbps it's functional for focused work and light calls, but don't plan back-to-back video meetings here.
Bonus for remote working parents: there's a dedicated kids' area, making this one of the few work spots in Cartagena where you can bring your child and actually get something done.
One of Cartagena's most iconic cultural spaces — a proper bookshop café with floor-to-ceiling shelves, exposed brick arches, cobalt blue walls, and jazz playing at just the right volume. A comfortable Getsemaní café with a travel theme and a large world map that gives the space a bit of perspective. I've been several times, usually in the morning, and it has never felt overly full. The coffee is good, though a bit pricey. Staff are nice, outlets are available almost everywhere, and the WiFi test was excellent at 343.62 Mbps down / 321.85 Mbps up with 24 ms ping. This is one of the stronger options for video-related work in Getsemaní.
One of the most beautiful spaces to work from in the historic center. Cathedral ceilings, checkered floors, natural light through arched windows, and a backlit bar wall that makes the whole room feel warm even in the morning. Specialty 100% Colombian coffee is the draw — serious coffee program. Music stays at a level that lets you concentrate, though it gets more lively as the day goes on. Full brunch menu means you can settle in for a long session. WiFi runs a bit faster on the upload than the download — both are solid and easily enough for video calls.
Health food café next to a medical centre in Bocagrande — bamboo-lined interior, live-edge wood tables, relaxed vibe. The shakes are excellent, food is decent. Ground floor has outlets via an extension cord they'll give you on request. The real discovery: an upstairs space that's generally empty, has plenty of outlets, and gets solid WiFi. 192 Mbps down / 36 Mbps up. A quiet Bocagrande option that most people walk past.
A Getsemaní classic. The coffee program is outstanding — one of the strongest menus in the city. Golden Milk is available here, which is rare in Cartagena. The WiFi is fiber but appears throttled, giving around 47/48 Mbps — that test was with just two people in the café, so speeds may not hold up once it fills. Tables are small — not ideal for a dual-monitor setup. Outlets available but not at every table. The main trade-off: the music gets loud, which makes calls difficult. Come for the coffee and focused morning work, not for back-to-back video meetings.
A neighborhood favorite I come back to often. Two comfy couches and a few less comfortable tables — it's primarily a coffee spot, not built for laptop marathons, but the couches work well for a few hours. The fastest WiFi measured on this site so far — 531 down / 386 up. Tables are just big enough to work on and it's genuinely quiet in the morning. Stick around all day and you'll probably end up talking to someone — this is a place where work has a way of turning into conversation, and conversation into a small party. AC is good, a few outlets available, but it gets lively past the morning.

One of Cartagena's most iconic café locations — Plaza Santo Domingo, next to Botero's famous reclining figure, across from the church and the Spanish Cultural Centre. The coffee is genuinely excellent, among the best in the city. The WiFi is not — 3 down / 1 up when tested, consistently weak and matching prior reports, and this isn't a one-off. Come here for the atmosphere and a great espresso. Bring your own hotspot if you need to work.
Striking space with a stacked shipping-container feature wall and double-height ceilings facing the beach. You can realistically leave your laptop here and go for a swim — beach access is steps away. The dedicated coworking floor is currently occupied by the Secretaría de Turismo; the public coffee area has two sofas and six four-person tables with strong AC and plenty of outlets. A second Concreto coworking space is opening on the mall's second floor around July 2026 — worth checking back. Slightly awkward to find: enter from outside the mall, take the left front stairs. One caveat for international calls: routing to Europe or the US tested separately at a much slower 25/10 Mbps with some packet loss — factor that in if you're calling abroad.

One of the few places in Cartagena that opens at 7am — rare and worth knowing. Movistar fiber gives it the fastest WiFi we've tested in the city: 372 down / 141 up. OK coffee, solid breakfast, quiet until lunchtime. A few outlets inside near the wall. In Manga, a quieter residential neighborhood away from the tourist center — worth the trip. Fuerte de Pastelillo is a short walk away if you need to stretch between sessions. Colombian flags, unpretentious local vibe.
